Beef prices RI Doubles More Expensive than Malaysia


Liputan6.com, Jakarta: The price of meat in Indonesia is known to be the most expensive compared to other countries in Asia. Commerce Ministry data registering the national meat prices in December 2012 reached Rp 95 thousand per kilogram (kg), while prices in other countries such as Singapore, Australia and Malaysia is only about Rp 45 thousand to Rp 50 per kg.

Deputy Trade Minister Bayu Krisnamurthi, says the condition is a fact situation in the market. In fact, the price conditions in those countries are considered more stable than Indonesia with a price range of Rp 45 thousand to Rp 50 thousand per kg.

"Based on past experiences early 2012, the price of meat at Rp 65 thousand per kg then up ahead of Eid at about USD 85 thousand. Using the same logic, the price ahead of the Lebaran this year, the price could reach USD 125 thousand at the end of this year," he said , Friday (02/01/2013).

"We let the import quota of 80 thousand the first, would be decided no more please. But do not forget we will have Ramadan in late July, and usually demand will go up," he pleaded.
