Former Minister of Religious Tarmizi Taher Dies


Liputan6.com, Jakarta: Former Minister of Religious Tarmizi Taher died this morning at the residence at around 4:15 pm. Retired Navy Rear Adm. it had served as Minister of Religious Affairs of Indonesia from 1993 to 1998.

"Yeah died this morning at the funeral home," said Head of Public Relations of the Ministry of Religious Djubaedi in conversation with Liputan6.com, Tuesday (02/12/2013).

According Djubaedi, the deceased was buried in a funeral home No 1 Jalan Merbau Naval Base Complex Teak, Pondok Labu, South Jakarta. The deceased was undergoing treatment several times because of the pain he suffered a stroke.

"The plan is about 12.30 pm was buried in Park Cemetery Kalibata, South Jakarta. Islamic Guidance Director will be an inspector's funeral because the minister was assignment to Saudi," said Djubaedi.

The plan, the deceased Imam Mosque disalatkan at Naval Base Complex Bonjol Jati after midday prayers. Tarmizi Taher is a born leader Padang, West Sumatra, October 7, 1936.

Although known as a Minister of Religion, early career started late and retired from the Navy with the rank of Rear Admiral. Ever adopting positions in the military, including the Health Officer at KRI Irian, spokesman ABRI faction in the Assembly, Head of the Mental Development of the Navy, and Chief of the Armed Forces Center for Mental Development.

Tarmizi also been appointed ambassador to Norway and Iceland and Chairman of the Council of Mosques Indonesia from 2006 to 2011. Tarmizi also elected as president of the Islamic University of Az-zahra, Jakarta. (Ism)
